E-guerrilla 3D participation: Approach, implementation, and usability study

Typical urban participatory approaches engage citizens through lengthy sessions far from the area under transformation by an project. Several issues result these settings of involvement including mobilization similar individuals, overwhelming codes, or a gap between affected landscape and location session. This study introduces modern approach that leverages use 3D web applications to address some critical challenges popular sessions. The developed approach, named e-guerrilla participation, is based on five dimensions: immediate ease use, flexibility, place-based engagement, immersivity. A prototype complying with dimensions was implemented in this study. promotes situ engagement where all users (without distinction) public can explore future project get involved within minutes. usability conducted 26 expert non-expert participants investigated fictive scenario. findings demonstrate positive outcome terms results are identifiable (highlighting controversial elements projects) encourage feedback collected during survey interview. suggests key aspects should be considered improve design their interactive mediums (or tools), such as realism, affordance, incentive, purpose. promising (and prototype), which unpacked step-by-step study, does not replace typical practices but could help complement them reaching non-selected broader public; hence leading more inclusive approaches.
